Arndale Shopping Centre
When Wilson James were awarded the contract to provide logistical support on the northern redevelopment of Manchester Arndale in September 2004, it and Bovis Lend Lease (Prudential's main contractor on the project) decided to recruit the required workforce from the local area. We also opted to create the NVQ qualification to ensure that logistics was a recognised trade on the site. Wilson James managed all aspects of site logistics on the Manchester Arndale redevelopment, from moving materials and removing waste to co-ordinating site deliveries and ensuring plant and machinery is at the right place on the site at the right time. On a daily basis it had to contend with co-ordinating almost 400 vehicles and the movement of around 57 tonnes of blocks a day; the equivalent of 275 Arndale Towers stacked on top of each other.
